The Right Material for the Job
A quick reference to the gasket and seal materials we stock and cut. Not sure which one fits your service? Call us — we'll walk you through it.
Neoprene
-40°F to 220°FGeneral-purpose chloroprene rubber. Good weather, ozone, and moderate oil resistance. A reliable workhorse for outdoor and HVAC applications.
Nitrile (Buna-N)
-30°F to 250°FThe go-to for petroleum-based fluids, fuels, and hydraulic oils. Excellent abrasion resistance.
EPDM
-60°F to 300°FOutstanding water, steam, and weather resistance. The right call for outdoor service, potable water, and brake fluid — but not petroleum.
Viton (FKM)
-15°F to 400°FPremium fluoroelastomer for aggressive chemicals, fuels, and high heat. When nothing else holds up, Viton usually does.
Non-Asbestos
Up to 700°FCompressed sheet gasket material made from aramid fibers and rubber binders. The modern, safe replacement for legacy asbestos sheet.
Plant Fiber
Up to 250°FCellulose-based gasket sheet for low-pressure water, oil, and fuel applications. Cost-effective and easy to cut.
Closed Cell Foam
Varies by compoundSponge rubber that won't absorb water. Great for environmental seals, weather strips, and dust covers.
Silicone
-80°F to 450°FWide temperature range and excellent flexibility at extremes. Food-grade compounds available for sanitary service.
Silicone Sponge
-80°F to 450°FSponge form of silicone — same temperature range, with added cushioning and sealing under low compression.
Graphite
Up to 850°F+Flexible graphite sheet for high-temperature flange service, valve packing, and steam applications. Conforms to imperfect surfaces.
PTFE
-300°F to 500°FVirtually universal chemical resistance. Used for aggressive chemicals, food and pharma, and high-purity service. Available virgin or filled.
Temperature ranges are general guidelines. Actual service limits depend on compound, pressure, media, and application. Always confirm with our team before specifying.
